stoped paying condo but what about association?
stopped paying for my condo but i keep paying for association every month as sombody (friend) told that i have to. but if i cant even pay that anymore and dont want to because im already going to loose my home, why should i keep paying 400 every month? so my question is what happens if i stop with the association payments?
Answer:
The association will simply bill you for the payments. They will also eventually sue you in court to try to collect whatever payments you owe. As some other answerers stated, the association can place a lien on your condo, and foreclose. In reality, the association will not do that. If you are already behind on your mortgage, then that means your mortgage is more than the value of your property. If the association forecloses, then the proceeds will first be used to pay the balance of the mortgage. That will leave the association with nothing. The association is not going to go through the time and expense of foreclosing if it is not going to recover anything. So, the worst that will happen is that you may be sued sometime down the road. The associations around where I live are hurting badly financially, because there are thousands of persons who are refusing to pay association dues because they figure that foreclosure is coming anyway, so why bother.
