Hello, I am trying to figure out what do I need to do to put my house on rent. Do I need any kind of business license to do that? and also will have to pay tax on that rent that i collect? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Another question just popped into my head, I heard that there is a form 1099 that I need to file my taxes if I rent out my house. Some states do require licensing, CA is not one of them. You pay state and federal income tax on the rent. A 1099 comes from the tenant, usually if they are writing the rent off for business purposes. You will not likely receive one, it is not required.
